I bought both of these products while in Brisbane for Soundwave. I've wanted to try the Budge-Proof Gel Liner since I found out about them before they were released last month, and I wanted to get a waterproof mascara that I could wear to Soundwave. I didn't want to spend a lot of money and Face of Australia had a sale at Big W.
As I said, the Budge-Proof gel liner was something I've been excited about for a little while, and was only released in early February. I've never used a gel liner before so I thought this was a great opportunity to try one. It comes in 5 colours, but I got blackest black as it's the most wearable. This comes in a little pot, with a lid that contains a little brush that's perfect for applying the liner. The brush comes out the top of the lid and attaches to it to create a longer brush (which I only realised after reading Ling's review, whoops).
As for the formula, it's nice and creamy and very easy to apply. It just glides on. However, it's not very opaque and you do need to build up the colour with a fair few layers so it ends up taking a bit longer than my usual liquid liner to apply.
Unfortunately, this isn't what I would call 'budge proof'. Sure, it lasts though a long day at work, and after it's dried you can't rub it off, but I bought with hopes that it could survive Soundwave. Ok, a long hot rock festival in Brisbane, big crowded and sweaty moshpits. I was probably asking a bit much of it. It did not survive well. It did ok most of the day, but I'm assuming it was the hot, sweaty Blink 182 mosh pit where I had water poured over me, and that made sweat cover everything (sorry if that's tmi!) There was some of it left when I got back to the hotel, mostly in my lashline, but most of it had rubbed off. I also had the worst panda eyes I've ever had. Not only did it not last Soundwave, it didn't survive the ending of 'The Fault in Our Stars' by John Green. That disappointed me a bit as Face of Australia say this is supposed to 'resist sweat, tears and water'.
One line and layered
So easy to do winged eyeliner with these.
As for the mascara, I really didn't know what to expect! I really only bought it because it was on sale and I wanted to get something different (I almost bought the waterproof Covergirl LashBlast Volume but decided I wanted to try something new). I'm pretty impressed with it, it's the first FOA mascara I've used, and the first waterproof mascara I've used since high school. It has a fairly thin brush wand, and manages to make my lashes look quite nice. Really the only problem I have is that the formula is really wet, and you need to be careful not to smudge it after you apply because if it gets on your eyelid it's really hard to get off again! It also didn't survive Soundwave and I think it was the main cause of my horrible panda eyes, but any other day it lasts all day and is quite hard to get off with make up remover wipes (FOA ones too, funnily enough!) but my Body Shop Aloe cleanser gets it off ok.
One layer of mascara, without curling or separating my lashes.
For the price, I'm quite happy with both of these products. I'm glad I finally bought a gel liner and I may be a gel convert! I bought two of the gel liners because I was so excited about them, and I'm planning on putting one in my giveaway I'm holding soon.
Have you tried either of these products? What did you think?
